Mr. Madison C. Wilde, Field Manager of Educational Films, has engaged young Westy Martin, the so-called best scout since Buffalo Bill, to act as his guide on the Santa Fe Trail, as he makes a movie about the history and future of the famous trail. As they set off by train, Westy's friends all call for souvenirs, but maybe they are a bit envious? It doesn't take long for Westy and his companion Rip to find themselves in the midst of the action and possible danger.
