Wie alle Evangelien enthält es einen Bericht über das Leben Jesu von Nazareth, weicht jedoch in der Art der Darstellung und in seinem theologischen Charakter deutlich von den drei synoptischen Evangelien (Matthäus, Markus, Lukas) ab.
