小川未明(1882-1961)の代表作、「赤いろうそくと人魚」は1921年に東京朝日新聞に 掲載されました。老夫婦に育てられた女の子の人魚は、ろうそくに絵を描いて、商売を 繁盛させました。しかし、金に心を奪われた老夫婦は、娘を香具師に売り渡してしまいます。
